Taking a step back and considering the Bigger Picture: Advocacy

While we in Dover are busy preparing for our major spring fundraiser, the larger Library community is focusing on advocacy. This just in from our friends at Project Alert:

Here is a Challenge to the Library Community!

Can we get 500 people to come to Massachusetts Legislative Day at the State House in Boston this year? With the thousands of people who work in libraries, serve as Trustees, Friends, and users of Massachusetts Libraries, you would think that would be easy! But it is not as easy as it should be.

Are you attending?

Library Legislative Day & Rally
Hosted by Massachusetts Library Association and the Massachusetts School Library Association
Tuesday March 9, 2010
9:30am State House Boston, MA

Schedule:
9:30am Registration Begins/Great Hall
10am MSLA Bookmark Contest Awards/Lobby of the Grand Staircase
11am Rally for Libraries/In front of the State House
Noon Lunch  Program
Visits to Legislators can take place throughout the day!

Suggestion: Invite your Legislator(s) to sit with you at lunch! or make an appointment to visit him/her in their office.

The Project Alert folks are right on target here; this is budget season on Beacon Hill. Try to make the date.  The people you vote for count heads at events like this, and they deserve to hear your thoughts.
